Version 0.002

We've pretty much defined what version 0.002 will be and the features the game will start with. It will still be bare bones but have several systems in place to test. Our goal is to close this version in early/mid November, it may be sooner or later than that depending on how things go. The major things that you will see in this version are revised player movement, moving between levels, an NPC (Dennis, the guide), enemies, loot, light pvm/pvp systems, and an account system.

As work progresses, we will be posting some info and probably screen shots of how things are going.

New *internal* version.

So a day ahead of schedule, we've closed our first new version in over a year. This version was changing some server side stuff to prepare for our new map format. Dristin can now support a map size over 32000x32000x16 which itself can be easily expanded (I hope we have to some day ;)). Due to the long hiatus and new subversion system we are now using, we've reset our version count. Today was the close of v0.001 (beta).

We are now in the planing stage of 0.002. Once we have the majority of it nailed down (should be a few days), I'll post a list of what will be in it along with a projected completion date. After that date, the server will be up pretty much 24/7.

It's been a while.

Hello to anyone who might still check the forum!

I wanted to post and let you guys know that after a very long (coughnewbabiestakeallyourtimecough) break, work on Dristin has completely resumed. For the past couple weeks we've been getting back at it and are 2 weeks away from our first new version in over a year. This version is still a behind the scenes thing as it's mainly an overhaul of how the map format works, so nothing too interesting. In about a week we will start planning the next version which will finally be where this starts to be a game. As for how long that version will take, we'll let you know when we finalize what exactly we will be putting into it.


Now that were back to work, I will be posting regular updates on progress. Likely once a week or anytime we get something notable complete.

Dristin Screenshots.

I was told there'd be punch and pie. Instead I got trapped in a graveyard and couldn't see myself. And when I could, I had no thong! Everyone was a crown! (Yes, I know there's no d4, for some reason it decided to be INVISIBLE just like everyone else!)

As players walked around a lot of them would appear to be dropping crowns, or avatars, behind them as they moved, only visible to everyone else and not themselves. There was a lot of avatar ghosting as the players would walk around, and eventually we began to disappear, one by one. If we idled for a few minutes the avatar would reappear but go away as soon as we started to move again. And Dozzie insists the "mountain" area is a future GM isle but Rich just says it's The Nothing and it's going to devour Dristin. :( Also, as you'd use the arrow keys to walk around, if you tried to do anything else outside of the client (instant messaging, scrolling on web browser) the arrows would have no affect but on Dristin you'd just be moving [...]

Tentative test date: 8/6/09 *Updated*

Looks like we will be able to do some testing on August 6th. This is going to be some early stuff (yea i know by this time we should be done, kiss my ass :P ) . It's not going to be too in depth as we want to make sure our framework is stable before moving on.

Things we will be testing:
Client Rendering
-Gui, Title screen, fonts, map all displaying graphics properly on various configurations of pc's
-Graphics stability (can the client minimize, resize, etc properly).
-Map refresh is acceptable
-Acceptable framerates

Map/Gameworld
-See other players & are they in their proper positions
-Walking around the map, things that block your movement should actually be blocking your movement

Chat
-Open close channels with other players
-Default channels automatically appear/cant be closed, work properly, etc (default channels will be Local & World for now)
-Proximity chat functioning as expected

Gui
-Interface functions as expected, scroll bars, buttons, text boxes work.

Server
-Misc [...]
